The 1990's

The 1990's were a decade of experimentation, growth, and collaboration for The Schoolhouse Theater, as we spent the first part of the decade playing host to various professional companies in Westchester, including Word Play II, Coyote Stages, and Logodaedaly Company. Together, The Schoolhouse developed our gutsy and off-beat reputation, the home of forgotten masterpieces by John Steinbeck and Brian Friel and burgeoning new talent. We produced nine world premieres throughout the decade under the leadership of our first artistic director, Pamela Moller Kareman. We also played host to theatrical luminaries like Tammy Grimes (Broadway’s first Unsinkable Molly Brown), John Barton (founder of the RSC), Athol Fugard, Jules Feiffer, Paul Zindel, George Furth, Tom Palumbo, and Housewives on Prozac.
