Will DeVary
Will DeVary is grateful beyond words to be a part of the team here at The Schoolhouse Theater. At The Schoolhouse, he has performed and directed work as part of the Pandemic Players series, as well as assistant directing Austin Pendleton, Seret Scott, and Owen Thompson on the mainstage at The Schoolhouse. Additionally, he played Hally in “Master Harold”…and the boys last season, and will be playing Bertie Wooster in Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense this December!
Originally from Kentucky, Will has worked as a performer throughout the country with Actors Theatre of Louisville, Chautauqua Theatre Company, The Cherry, Kentucky Shakespeare Festival, The Players Theatre, Ithaca Shakespeare Company, and Theatre (502). Will has also toured nationally as part of Heading Into Night, a clown ode on…forgetting with Daniel Passer (Cirque du Soleil), directed by Beth F. Milles (Broadway, The Actors Gang). He has done developmental work and staged readings with The Signature Theatre/La Femme Theatre Productions, Queens Theatre, The Thread Collective, and Pandora Productions. Additionally, he appeared in Men Go to Battle (Tribeca Film Festival, Best New Feature Director) and will appear in the pilot episode of Born 2 Lose (dir. Carlos Cardona).
As a director, Will has worked with Theaterlab, On the Verge, The Cherry Artspace, Ithaca Theatre Collective, Floyd Central Theatre Arts, and Strange Players (an organization he co-founded) which produced Muse of Fire, a four-part multimedia adaptation of Elizabethan history plays (spanning Marlowe’s Edward II, the anonymous Edward III and Thomas of Woodstock, Shakespeare’s Henriad and Wars of the Roses, the collaborative Sir Thomas More, and Henry the Eighth) during the Summer of 2020. Will has directed Austin Pendleton, Karen Ziemba (Tony Award Winner, Contact), Delaney Williams (The Wire), Ali Louis-Bourzgui (Broadway, The Who’s Tommy), Sushma Saha (Broadway, 1776) and many other wonderful collaborators. He is the co-founder of BURN1, a production collective based in New York City, with his partner, Lou Baron.
Will is also a writer and dramaturg. His essay “Taming Desire: Streetcar on Film” was published in Zoetic Literary Magazine, and he served as editor for Beyond the Studio, a Conversation about Acting by three-time Fulbright Scholar Cynthia Henderson and his theatrical work has been given developmental readings at The Schoolhouse.
Will is a 2022 graduate of Ithaca College’s BFA in Acting Program (where he also received a BA in Literatures of English), and an alumnus of Chautauqua Theatre Company’s Summer Program. Post graduation, Will has trained with Peter Francis James, Christopher Bayes, Jess Cummings, Seth Barrish, Budi Miller, Steve Broadnax III, Ryan Quinn, Tia James, Mike Labbadia and many other wonderful teachers and mentors.
